How long is the AP Psychology exam?
The AP Psychology exam takes 2 hours and 40 minutes and is fully digital in the Bluebook app. Section I has 75 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes and counts for 67% of your score. Section II has 2 free-response questions in 70 minutes and counts for 33%: the Article Analysis Question (25 minutes) and the Evidence-Based Question (45 minutes).
Many guides that still rank for this question describe an older exam: 2 hours long, with 100 multiple-choice questions. That format is gone. Today you get 75 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, which is 72 seconds per question.
The free-response section has two different tasks. In the Article Analysis Question you get one summarized peer-reviewed study and answer six parts for up to 7 points, in 25 minutes including a 10-minute reading period. In the Evidence-Based Question you get three summarized studies and answer three parts for up to 7 points, in 45 minutes including a 15-minute reading period.
You answer everything in Bluebook, and your responses are submitted automatically when time runs out. The 2027 exam is on Friday, May 14, and AP scores come out in July. The exam covers the whole course, so the best prep is regular practice with real exam timing from the first unit on.
