How long is the AP Macroeconomics exam?
The AP Macroeconomics exam is 2 hours and 10 minutes long. Section I has 60 multiple-choice questions in 70 minutes and counts for two thirds of your score. Section II has 3 free-response questions in 60 minutes, including a 10-minute reading period, and counts for one third. It is a hybrid digital exam, and a four-function calculator is allowed on both sections.
In more detail
Section I gives you 70 minutes for 60 questions, about 70 seconds each. They test whether you can define economic principles and models, explain given outcomes and work out the outcome of a specific situation. Only correct answers count toward your score, so answer every question.
Section II has 1 long question, worth half of the section score, and 2 short questions, worth a quarter each. The 60 minutes include a 10-minute reading period, which leaves about 50 minutes to write. Plan roughly 25 minutes for the long question and 12 for each short one. You may have to make assertions, explain, calculate and draw graphs.
You read the questions in Bluebook but handwrite your answers in a paper booklet, graphs included, so practice drawing graphs by hand with labeled axes and curves. In 2027 the exam is on Friday, May 7, in Session 2, usually the afternoon. AP Microeconomics has the same 2 hours 10 minutes. Check-in and instructions come on top, and approved accommodations such as extended time make it longer.

Draw your graphs by hand with labeled axes and curves, mark the equilibrium and show every shift.
- 6

How StudyPDF helps
Upload your economics textbook chapters, lecture slides or class notes, and StudyPDF builds a practice exam from them in sections, with a timer if you want one and no feedback until you submit. Short answers are self-graded against a model answer, and the report shows your result per section. Labeled graphs from your slides can also become flashcards that hide each label.
