How long is the AP Statistics exam?
The AP Statistics exam is 3 hours long, split into two 90-minute sections worth 50% each. Section I has 42 multiple-choice questions. Section II has 4 free-response questions. In 2027 it is a fully digital exam, so you answer everything in the Bluebook app, and calculators are allowed.
In more detail
In Section I you have 90 minutes for 42 questions, a little over 2 minutes each. Only correct answers count toward your score, so a guess always beats a blank. The questions cover all 5 units and the 4 statistical practices, so make a first pass for the quick ones and flag the long ones for later.
Section II also lasts 90 minutes, for 4 questions worth 10 points each, which is about 22 minutes per question. Questions 1 and 2 are multi-part questions, question 3 focuses on inference and question 4 is a multi-part question that spans several content areas. College Board expects you to use a graphing calculator with statistical functions in this section.
For 2027 College Board lists AP Statistics as a fully digital exam, so older prep material that mentions a paper free-response booklet may be out of date. You type your free responses in Bluebook, and College Board publishes digital response guidelines for entering statistical notation on a regular keyboard, so practice that before May. The exam is on Tuesday, May 11, 2027, in Session 2, usually the afternoon. Equation sheets and tables are available as reference materials. Check-in and instructions come on top of the 3 hours, and your AP coordinator tells you when and where to report.

- 5
Do the free-response practice with a graphing calculator that has statistical functions, since that is what you use on exam day.
- 6
Score your free responses with the official scoring guidelines and review the units behind your misses.
How StudyPDF helps
Upload your AP Statistics notes, textbook chapters or class slides, and StudyPDF builds a practice exam from them in sections, with a timer if you want one and no feedback until you submit. Short answers are self-graded against a model answer, and the report shows your result per section and per concept, so you see whether inference or probability is costing you points.
