Flashcard template: free printable

This flashcard template is a printable sheet of five double-sided cards: a front on the left, a fold line in the middle and a back on the right. Print it, write a question on the front and the answer on the back, cut along the dashed lines and fold. Keep one fact per card and test yourself out loud.

Flashcards work through active recall: you try to remember the answer before you look at it. That effort is what makes a fact stick, much more than rereading your notes. The template gives you the layout, so you can spend your time on the content.

Good cards are small. One question, one answer, in your own words. Shuffle them as you go and put the ones you miss into a separate pile to repeat sooner. Writing the cards yourself is already part of the studying.

StudyPDF makes a deck like this from your lecture file, and every card cites its source. Make flashcards from my materials

How to use it

  1. 1Print the blank sheet on A4 or Letter paper. Thicker paper lasts longer if you use the cards often.
  2. 2Write one question or term on the front of each card and the answer on the back. One fact per card.
  3. 3Use your own words and keep answers short, ideally one line. Add a small sketch where a picture helps.
  4. 4Cut along the dashed outer lines and fold each card on the middle line. Glue or tape the halves together for a stiff card.
  5. 5Read the front, say the answer out loud, then flip. Put the cards you missed into a pile and go through that pile again.
  6. 6Repeat over several days instead of one evening. Cards you know move to the back of the stack.

Let StudyPDF fill it from your materials

Upload your lecture slides or notes, press New material and pick Flashcards. StudyPDF writes the deck from your own file, each card citing its source, with figures from your slides where they help. Rate every card Again, Hard, Good or Easy as you study. Export the deck as a PDF fold-over print sheet, or to Anki on Pro and up. A free account is enough.

Questions and answers

Is there a flashcard template in Word?

You can make one with a table of two columns and several rows, then print it double-sided. The sheet on this page does the layout for you: print it, write, cut and fold.

How do I make personalized flashcards?

Write the cards from your own notes or lecture slides, one fact per card and in your own words. Add a sketch or an example where it helps. Or upload your material to StudyPDF and let it draft the cards from your own file.

Can ChatGPT create flashcards?

It can draft cards from text you paste in. It can add details that are not in your notes, so check them against your course. StudyPDF writes cards from the files you upload and each card cites its source page.

How many flashcards should I make per topic?

Start with 10 to 20 cards per topic and add more only for what you keep missing. A small stack you really review beats a huge one you never open.
