Study plan

Study plan template: free printable

A study plan template is a weekly grid with the days across the top and study sessions down the side, plus a goal for the week and your exam date. Print the free sheet below or save it as a PDF, write your goal, give every session one concrete task and finish the week with a short review.

A plan only works if it is specific. "Study biology" is a wish. "Chapter 4 reading, then 20 practice questions" is a session. The grid helps because every slot needs a concrete task, and an empty slot is visible too, so you stop pretending you have time you do not have.

Work backwards from the exam date. Count the weeks left, list the chapters or topics, and put the hard ones early so you can repeat them. Mix reading with recall: flashcards, practice questions and a full practice exam in the last weeks. Keep one slot free for catch-up. The end-of-week review tells you what moves into next week.

How to use it

  1. 1Write your exam date and one goal for this week at the top. Make the goal something you can tick off, like "finish chapters 4 to 6".
  2. 2List the chapters or topics you still have to cover and how long each needs. Be honest about how much time you really have.
  3. 3Block the sessions you can actually do. Leave the rest of the grid empty instead of filling it with hope.
  4. 4Put one concrete task in each session: a chapter to read, a number of practice questions, a set of flashcards. Start with the hardest topics.
  5. 5Mix methods. Follow each reading session with recall, such as flashcards or practice questions, and keep one slot for catch-up.
  6. 6At the end of the week write a short review: what worked, what slipped, what moves to next week. Then print a fresh sheet.
Or let StudyPDF fill it

Let StudyPDF fill it from your materials

StudyPDF builds a dated plan for you. Upload your material, open the course's Study plan tab and enter your exam date, the hours per day and the weekdays you study. You get sessions with a date, a length and an activity, with weak topics placed earlier and repeated. Today's plan shows what is due, and each session opens the material it belongs to.

Questions and answers

How do you write a study plan?

Set your exam date and a goal for the week, list the topics and how long each needs, block the sessions you can really do and give each one a concrete task. Mix reading with recall, keep a catch-up slot and review at the end of every week.

How far ahead should I start a study plan?

As soon as you know the exam date. The more weeks you have, the shorter each session can be and the more often you can repeat the hard topics.

Can I use ChatGPT to make a study plan?

It can turn your exam date and hours into a draft schedule. It does not know your material, so check that the topics match your course. StudyPDF plans over your own uploaded material and puts weak topics first.

How many hours a day should I study?

It depends on the exam and on your other commitments. Pick a number you can keep for a whole week, such as two or three focused hours, and adjust after your weekly review.
