How long is the TEAS test and how many questions?
The ATI TEAS gives you 209 minutes, about 3 hours and 29 minutes, for 170 questions. Reading has 45 questions in 55 minutes, Math 38 in 57, Science 50 in 60, and English and Language Usage 37 in 37. A 10-minute break after Math does not count as testing time, so the whole test runs about 3 hours and 39 minutes.
Only 150 of the 170 questions are scored. The other 20 are unscored pretest questions that ATI is trying out, and they do not affect your score. You are not told which ones they are, so treat every question as if it counts.
Each section has its own clock, which starts when you open that section. Time does not carry over, so finishing Reading early gives you no extra minutes for Math. Within a section you can go back to questions while time remains, but once you submit a section you cannot return to it.
The pace differs by section: about 73 seconds per Reading question, 90 seconds per Math question, 72 seconds per Science question and 60 seconds per English question. On test day, add check-in and instructions. Testing sites usually tell you to plan for about 4 hours in total.
| Section | Questions | Time | Per question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 45 | 55 min | About 73 s |
| Math | 38 | 57 min | 90 s |
| Break | - | 10 min (not testing time) | - |
| Science | 50 | 60 min | 72 s |
| English and Language Usage | 37 | 37 min | 60 s |

- 1Take one full timed practice test in section order: Reading, Math, the 10-minute break, Science, then English.
- 2Work out your slowest section by seconds per question, not by total score.
- 3Drill Math at 90 seconds per question and English at one minute per question, the tightest pace on the test.
- 4Give Science the most review time, since it has the most questions, 50.
- 5Before you submit a section, use any time left to check flagged questions, because you cannot go back later.
