Cheat sheet template: free printable one-pager

A cheat sheet template gives you one page with fixed slots: what the exam covers, the formulas and terms you cannot afford to forget, the traps that cost marks, and a short must-remember list. Print the blank sheet below and fill it in your own words. The filled example is a physics midterm sheet on motion in one dimension.

Example: physics cheat sheet on motion in one dimension

Cheat Sheet

Name
Course
Exam date
Exam scope

Physics midterm 1, motion in one dimension. One handwritten sheet allowed. Covers displacement, velocity, constant acceleration and free fall. Pick a positive direction first and use SI units.

Formulas and terms
Formula or term
How to use it
v = v0 + a t
No displacement given. Gives the final velocity.
x = x0 + v0 t + ½ a t²
No final velocity given. Gives the position after time t.
v² = v0² + 2a (x - x0)
No time given. Links speed, acceleration and distance.
Free fall
Ignore air. a = -9.8 m/s² when up is positive, on the way up and down.
Average velocity
Displacement over time. Zero for a round trip, unlike average speed.
Traps to check
1. Did I pick one positive direction and keep it all the way through?
2. Are all values in SI units, with minutes and km/h converted?
3. Does the sign of g match my positive direction?
4. Which variable does the problem leave out, and which equation skips it?
Must remember
• Choose the equation by the variable the problem leaves out.
• At the top of a throw the velocity is zero, the acceleration is not.
• Write the units on every line to catch mistakes early.

This is the kind of study guide StudyPDF writes from a lecture file, with key concepts, self-test questions and the source page for each part. Make a study guide from my materials

How to use it

  1. 1

Read the exam rules first: how many sheets, which size, one side or two, handwritten or typed. Print the blank sheet or save it as a PDF and add your name, course and exam date.

  2. 2

In the first box, write the topics the exam covers and its rules, so you know the limits you are working in.

  3. 3

Go through your notes and past papers. For every formula or term you got wrong or hesitated on, add one row: the formula or term, and when you use it.

  4. 4

Write each row from memory first, then check it against your notes. A row you cannot write alone is something to study, not just to copy.

  5. 5

Fill the traps box with the mistakes that cost you marks, like wrong units or a sign error. Add three lines you must remember.

  6. 6

Cut anything you could find in ten seconds. Then shrink it and print. Read the sheet the day before the exam and fix whatever is unclear.

More on this

A cheat sheet template gives you one page with fixed slots: what the exam covers, the formulas and terms you cannot afford to forget, the traps that cost marks, and a short must-remember list. Print the blank sheet below and fill it in your own words. The filled example is a physics midterm sheet on motion in one dimension.

A cheat sheet is not a summary of the course. It holds only what you would forget under pressure: formulas, definitions, rules and the mistakes you keep making. If you could look it up in a textbook in ten seconds, leave it off.

Check the rules before you start. Some exams allow one sheet, with limits on size, sides and handwritten or typed. Others allow none, and then the sheet is simply your last-hour review page. Bringing one into an exam that does not allow it is cheating, so ask your instructor.

The sheet does its work while you make it. Write each line from memory first, then check it against your notes. Group by topic, put when to use each formula next to it, and leave white space. If you need a magnifying glass to read it, it will not help you in the exam.

Questions and answers

How do I create my own cheat sheet?

Start with the exam rules, then list the topics. For each formula or term you tend to forget, write one row from memory and add when to use it. Add a short traps box and a must-remember list. The template above holds those parts.

What is the best format for a cheat sheet?

One page, grouped by topic, with the formula or term on the left and what it means or when to use it on the right. Short lines with white space beat dense walls of text. Keep the type big enough to read at exam speed.

How can I turn my notes or a textbook into a cheat sheet?

Go chapter by chapter and keep only what you would forget under pressure: formulas, definitions, rules, exceptions. Or upload the file to StudyPDF, press New material and pick Cheat sheet. It builds a printable page from your own materials and cites the source page of each section, which you should check against your course.

What AI is best for making a cheat sheet?

Any assistant can condense text you paste in. The difference is the source and the fit. StudyPDF builds the sheet from the files you upload, cites the page, and lays it out to print on one page. The free plan makes about 4 materials a week. Check any AI sheet against your course before you trust it.

Can I bring a cheat sheet to the exam?

It depends on the exam. Some courses allow one page, others allow nothing, so ask your instructor first. You can always print the blank template and your finished sheet to study from.

Your course, not the internet.
