How long is the AP Spanish Language exam?
The AP Spanish Language and Culture exam is about 2 hours 30 minutes long. Section II has 55 multiple-choice questions in 80 minutes, split into two 40-minute parts, listening and reading. Section I has 3 free-response tasks, two spoken and one written, in about 65 to 70 minutes. Each section is 50% of your score. In 2027 it is on Thursday, May 13, in Session 1, in the Bluebook app.
In more detail
Section II is multiple choice: Part A has 25 listening questions in 40 minutes and Part B has 30 reading questions in 40 minutes, each part worth 25% of your score. Section I is three free-response tasks. Question 1 is a project presentation (20%): 3 minutes to prepare and 3 minutes to speak. Question 2 is a project Q&A (15%): you answer 4 pre-recorded questions you have not seen, 40 seconds each. Question 3 is an argumentative essay (15%) written in 55 minutes from print and audio sources, with two chances to hear the audio.
Questions 1 and 2 build on the research you did for a project topic that College Board releases in January of the exam year. Question 3 is independent of that topic. You submit your Personalized Project Reference (PPR) as final through the AP Digital Portfolio by 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, April 30, 2027, so that deadline comes before the exam itself.
The exam is fully digital. You hear audio prompts and record your spoken answers directly in Bluebook, so test your headphones and microphone in a Bluebook test preview first. In 2027 it is on Thursday, May 13, in Session 1, usually the morning, and for most schools Session 1 starts at 8 a.m. local time. Check-in and instructions come on top of the 2 hours 30 minutes, and approved accommodations such as extended time make the sitting longer.
