Test yourself on the unit you actually have to pass
A biology practice test from StudyPDF is built from your own lectures. Upload the unit, choose a practice exam or a quiz, and you get questions on what your course covered, with graded results that list your weakest concepts first.
Most free biology tests online are fixed sets. They are fine for general review, but they ask about the biology everyone shares, not the three lectures on cell signaling your professor spent a week on. A test built from your own slides asks about the right thing, and it can put your own diagrams inside the questions.
Practice exam or biology quiz: pick the one your week needs
Use the practice exam when you want to find out where you stand. It is sectioned, the timer is optional, and nothing is marked until you submit, like the real thing. You get a graded report with a result per section, and short answers are self-graded against a model answer.
Use the quiz while you are still learning the unit. Every question gives instant feedback, with an explanation and the page it came from. Question types include multiple choice, multi-select, true or false, short answer, matching, and fill in the blank. You choose the difficulty, how many questions, and which lectures or topics it covers.
What a genetics unit test looks like
Say you upload the lecture slides and one textbook chapter on Mendelian genetics. You open New material, pick Practice exam, scope it to that unit, and set 30 questions at medium difficulty.
What comes back is a test written from those pages. Each question is tagged with the concepts it checks, such as dominance, test crosses, or linkage, and cites the page it came from. If your slides hold a pedigree or a Punnett square, it can appear inside the question, cropped from your own slide instead of redrawn.
After you submit, the report shows a score for each section and then your concepts ranked weakest first. Ask Bo what to focus on and the answer is a button: the New material form opens with those concepts already picked, so the next quiz drills what you missed instead of the whole unit again.
What it does not do
It does not know your exam. The questions come from what you upload, so a topic missing from your slides will not be asked, and a thin deck gives thinner questions. It is not an official AP, CLEP, or MCAT question bank either, and the wording will not match a published exam.
Short answers are marked by you against a model answer, not by a grader. Figures only show up when your material has them. If a question looks off, open the cited page and check it before you trust it. Free gives you about 4 materials a week, and each test counts as one.
Start with one unit
Upload one unit, take the practice exam, and read the weakest-concepts list before you do anything else. That list is the point: it tells you where the next hour goes.
The same upload also gives you flashcards, a study guide, and a mind map, and every result feeds the same picture of what you know. It is free to start, no credit card. If you are preparing for AP Biology and want a ready-made question set, the quiz bank has one too.
How to make a biology practice test
Four steps from your lectures to a graded test.
- 1
Upload the unit
Add lecture slides, textbook pages, lab notes, a photo of the whiteboard, or a YouTube lecture. Scans and handwriting work too.
- 2
Choose the format and scope
Pick Practice exam or Quiz, then the lectures or topics it covers, the difficulty, the number of questions, and the question types.
- 3
Take it
In an exam you answer first and see marks only when you submit, with a timer if you want one. In a quiz every answer gets feedback with an explanation and the source page.
- 4
Read the weak list and go again
Open a new quiz with those concepts already picked and repeat until they stop sitting at the top.
What you get
A test that matches your course, not a fixed set written for every biology student at once.
- Questions come from your lectures, not a generic biology set
- Your own diagrams and charts can appear inside the questions
- A real exam mode: sections, an optional timer, no feedback until you submit
- Instant-feedback quizzes with an explanation and source page on every question
- Results list your weakest concepts first, with a score per section
Quiz yourself on your own material.
Upload one lecture or chapter and answer your first questions.
Questions and answers
Can I make a biology practice test from my own notes?
Yes. Upload lecture slides, textbook pages, lab notes, or photos of your notes, then choose Practice exam or Quiz. The questions come from your material, and each one cites the page it came from.
What is the difference between the practice exam and the quiz?
The practice exam is built to feel like the real thing: it has sections, an optional timer, and no feedback until you submit, then a graded report with a result per section. The quiz gives instant feedback on every question, with an explanation and the source page, so it suits learning a unit rather than testing it.
Is there a free biology practice test with answers?
Yes, it is free to start. Every question comes with the correct answer, an explanation, and the page of your material it was based on. Free gives you about 4 materials a week, so upgrade to Pro for more during exam season.
4 more questions
Can the questions use diagrams from my slides?
Yes, when your material has them. Diagrams, charts, and tables are cropped out of your pages, and a question can show one, for example a pedigree or a pathway diagram, with the question written around it. Nothing is redrawn, so the figure is the one from your own lecture.
Can I print the test or get it as a PDF?
Yes. Tests export to PDF or Word. A quiz can export with the solutions, or as a blank worksheet with the answer key on its own page, which is handy for a study group or a paper run-through.
Does this work for AP Biology or a college biology exam?
It works for any course you can upload material for, including AP Biology and college biology. It builds from your notes and prep material, so it is not a set of official exam questions. If you want a ready-made AP Biology question set, the quiz bank has one.
How do I know what to study after the test?
The results screen shows a breakdown by concept, weakest first. Ask Bo what to focus on and the New material form opens with those concepts already selected, so the next round targets the gaps.
