When do GRE scores come out?
Official GRE General Test scores are available in your ETS account 8 to 10 days after your test date. At that point ETS also sends the official score report to the schools you chose on test day. Reports you order later take about 5 business days to process. A test on October 3 gives you scores between October 11 and 13.
In more detail
ETS counts the 8 to 10 days from your test date, and it says days, not business days. Your Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores are reported from 130 to 170 in 1-point steps, and Analytical Writing from 0 to 6 in half-point steps. You read them in your ETS account, and ETS sends the official report to the score recipients you designated on test day at the same time.
Any report you order after test day takes about 5 business days to process before it goes out. Add that to the wait for your scores and a school can be about 2 to 3 weeks behind your test date. If you have a hard application deadline, book the test at least 3 weeks before it, and name your schools on test day so their reports go out with your scores.
Scores stay reportable for five years from your test date, and ScoreSelect lets you choose which test dates each school sees. If your result is below your target, you can retake after 21 days, so look at your deadline before you book.

Step by step
- 1
Note your test date and add 8 to 10 days to get your score window.
- 2
If a deadline is close, name your schools as score recipients on test day so reports go out with your scores.
- 3
Log in to your ETS account from day 8 and check until your scores appear.
- 4
Order any extra reports once you have seen your scores, and allow about 5 business days for processing.
- 5
Compare each program's deadline with the date its report would arrive, and send early.
- 6
If you plan a retake, count 21 days from your test date and book a date that still gets scores in before the deadline.
