How do you make flashcards in Google Docs?
Open a new Google Doc, set the margins to 0.5 inches in File, Page setup, then insert a table with 2 columns and 4 rows. Set a minimum row height, type the question in the left cell and the answer in the right cell of each row, and keep the borders visible. Print, cut and fold each row, or share the doc with a classmate.
Google Docs has no flashcard tool, so the table method is the standard way, the same as in Word. Its advantage is that the doc lives in your Google account, opens on any device and can be shared with a link, so a study group can build the cards together.
The limits are the same too. The cards are static, you cannot shuffle or rate them, and you type everything yourself. If you only want to read them on a screen, a table with the term on the left and the definition on the right works as a simple study list, and you can cover one column with a sheet of paper.
Keep one fact per row, use 18 to 24 point text and put the text in the middle of each cell so the printed cards look even.
- 1Create a new Google Doc and choose File, Page setup. Set all margins to 0.5 inches.
- 2Choose Insert, Table, and pick a grid with 2 columns and 4 rows.
- 3Right-click the table and choose Table properties. Set the minimum row height to 2.4 inches, the cell vertical alignment to Middle and the table border to 1 pt.
- 4Type the question in the left cell and the answer in the right cell of each row. Use text of 18 points or more.
- 5Add more rows or a second table for more cards.
- 6Choose File, Print, cut along the borders and fold each row in the middle. Or click Share and send the link to a classmate.
