How long is the PANCE?

The PANCE is a five-hour exam with 300 multiple-choice questions, split into five blocks of 60 questions. You get 60 minutes per block and 45 minutes of total break time, which you manage yourself. With the 15-minute tutorial, plan for about six hours at the test center.

In more detail

The NCCPA gives you 60 minutes for each block of 60 questions, so the pace works out to one minute per question. The five blocks add up to five hours of exam time. The 45 minutes of break time is one shared pool, not a fixed break after each block, so how you spend it is up to you. Add the 15-minute tutorial and you are at about six hours.

Split evenly across the four gaps between blocks, 45 minutes is about 11 minutes each. Some people take shorter breaks early and keep a reserve for later, when they are tired. Whatever you choose, practice the plan before test day so it is not a new decision under pressure.

The format and the rules for the exam can change, so confirm the timing on the NCCPA test-day page before you register.

Step by step

  1. 1

Take at least one full 300-question practice exam in the real structure: five blocks of 60 questions, 60 minutes each.

  2. 2

Pace yourself at one minute per question and check the clock after every 20 questions in a block.

  3. 3

Decide your break plan ahead of time, for example about 11 minutes after each of the first four blocks, or shorter early breaks with a reserve.

  4. 4

Plan food, water and the restroom inside your break time, so nothing eats into your blocks.

  5. 5

Do two or three full-length practice exams in your last weeks to build stamina, and review every miss.

How StudyPDF helps

Upload your PA program lecture slides, notes or photos of the pages, and StudyPDF builds flashcards, quizzes and a timed practice exam in sections from them, so you can rehearse the block rhythm. It tracks which concepts you keep missing, and the Plan tab lays out dated sessions up to your exam date. It does not include official PANCE questions and is not a question bank.

More questions

How long should you study for the PANCE?

Many students plan a few months of structured study, but the right length depends on how fresh your coursework is. Let your practice exam results, not the calendar, tell you when you are ready.

How much time do you get per question on the PANCE?

About one minute. Each block has 60 questions and 60 minutes.
