How much does the SAT cost?
Taking the SAT costs $68 in the United States. Outside the US it is $68 plus a $43 international fee. Your first four score reports are free, and eligible students can take the test for free with a fee waiver. Late registration adds $38 and each extra score report costs $15. These are the College Board fees listed through June 2027.
In more detail
The $68 is a flat fee per registration, so two attempts cost $136 and three cost $204, before any fee waiver. That is also the answer to how much it costs to take the SAT more than once: every sitting is a new $68. Registering after the regular deadline but before the late deadline adds $38. To change your test date you cancel and register again. Changing only your test center costs $34, and canceling costs $34 by the change deadline and $44 after it, up to Thursday 11:59 p.m. ET before test day.
Score reports are where the extras add up. Every weekend registration includes four free score sends. You pick the colleges at registration or until 9 days after the test, and after that each report costs $15. Rush reports add $31 on top of the report fee, archived scores cost $35, score verification costs $55 and getting your scores by phone costs $15 a call. Outside the US the fee is $68 plus $43, and a few international test centers charge their own fee.
You may not have to pay at all. Eligible low-income 11th and 12th graders in the US get a fee waiver: two free SAT tests, free score reports to as many colleges as you like, no late registration or cancellation fees, and waived application fees at participating colleges. A waiver does not cover changing your test center, rush scores or scores by phone. Many states and districts also pay for the SAT on a school day, so ask your counselor before you register for a weekend test.

Step by step
- 1
Ask your counselor whether your school offers the SAT on a school day at no cost to you.
- 2
Ask whether you qualify for a fee waiver. Your school holds the codes.
- 3
Register before the regular deadline to skip the $38 late fee.
- 4
Pick your four free score recipients at registration or within 9 days of the test.
- 5
Choose your test center once, since changing it costs $34.
- 6
Sit a test only when you are ready, because each attempt costs $68 again. Take a timed practice test first.
How StudyPDF helps
StudyPDF cannot change the fee, but it can make each $68 attempt count. Put your SAT notes, prep book chapters and the skills from your score report into a course, and it builds flashcards, quizzes and timed practice exams on what you missed, then tracks per concept what still trips you up. Set the test date in the Plan tab for dated sessions up to the day. The free plan covers about 4 materials a week, no card needed.
