How to choose
- Need the worked solution to a problem from a specific textbook? Chegg and Course Hero Premier are built for that. None of the free tools below replaces a book's solutions.
- Do not understand the idea behind the problem? Start with Khan Academy. It is free and teaches the concept, which a worked answer does not.
- Want a person who answers follow-ups? Wyzant by the hour, or Brainly's weekly tutor if your teen is in grades 7 to 12.
- Studying for an exam from your own slides and notes? Try NotebookLM and StudyPDF on their free plans with one real lecture. Pick Quizlet if you want sets other students made.
- Skip Bartleby: it retires on 9 November 2026. And check your school's honor code before you use any answer site.
More on this
Chegg is two things that people often mix up. One is answers: textbook solutions and expert Q&A. The other is learning from your own course. On its own pages, Chegg lists Chegg Study at $14.95 a month and Chegg Study Pack at $19.95. Both list up to 20 expert questions a month, and the Pack lists more than 6 million textbook solutions. In August 2026 Chegg described itself as a learning and workforce skilling company, with skills courses next to Chegg Study.
People look elsewhere for a few reasons: the monthly price, answers that show the result but not the method, or a wish to study from their own slides instead of someone else's solutions. If you need the worked solution to a problem in a specific textbook, Chegg is still built for that, and no free tool below copies a book's solutions. Bartleby, often named as the next closest site, has announced that it retires on 9 November 2026, so it is not on the list.
We sorted the options by need: learning the idea, finding study documents, talking to a tutor, and studying from your own material. We left out tools that only unblur or resell answers. Whatever you pick, check your school's honor code first. Facts come from each vendor's own site, checked on 16 October 2026. Prices change, so check before you pay.
