A research paper summarizer that cites the page
Upload the paper your seminar assigned. StudyPDF writes a summary whose key points link to the page they came from, so you can check a number before you repeat it.
- Figures and tables are cropped from the pages
- Ask Bo about the paper and get cited answers
Sample output
Lecture 4: Cell respiration
In short
- Cells turn glucose into ATP in three stages.
- Most ATP comes from the electron transport chain.
- Without oxygen, only glycolysis runs.

Research paper summarizer: what you actually get
Upload a paper and StudyPDF reads every page, then writes a summary: a TL;DR, key points and a short prose summary. The points carry citations, and each citation opens the paper at the page it came from. A number or a claim that matters can be checked in one click.
It is built for one job: a student who has to read a paper for a course and be ready to talk about it. It is not a literature review tool, and it does not compare papers or manage references. You need a free account, no card.
One paper, start to finish
Say your methods seminar assigns a fourteen-page paper. You upload the file to your course, next to the week's slides. Once it is read, the paper shows up as a source with its topics and concepts.
Open New material, choose Summary and pick the paper. In the free-text field, write what you need, for example: the question, the method, the main results and the limits the authors name. The result starts with a TL;DR, then the key points, then prose that follows the paper. A sample size, an effect or a quote has a citation next to it. Click it and the paper opens at that page, so you can read the sentence the summary was built from.
The summary follows what the paper says. A limit the authors never state will not show up in it, so read the discussion yourself.
After the summary: figures, questions, practice
Figures and tables are cropped out of the pages and stored on their own. Ask Bo what Figure 2 shows and he can pull it into the chat and explain it. Ask what the sample was or why the authors used a control group, and the answer comes from the paper, with a citation, not from the open internet.
When the seminar gets close, make flashcards or a quiz from the same paper, or a mind map of how the argument hangs together. Questions can use the figures from the paper. If the paper sits in a course with the lecture slides, a question about the week's topic can draw on both.
What it will not do
StudyPDF is not a literature review tool. It does not compare papers side by side, build a reference list or connect to a citation manager, and it does not search journals for you. Bring the paper you were assigned and it works on that.
A summary can still be wrong. It can misread a number or drop a condition, and a verification pass that checks the citations does not make a summary correct. Open the cited page for any figure you plan to use. Dense equations and heavy notation are the likeliest places to slip, so read the methods section yourself when the grade depends on it.
For a public web page, paste the link and the article summarizer covers it. For a paper, upload the file so every page is read. A paper behind a paywall has to reach you as a file you are allowed to keep. And treat the summary as reading help: in your own assignment, cite the paper, not the summary.
StudyPDF vs specialist paper tools
Tools built for researchers are strong at what researchers do: finding papers, comparing them and managing a library. If you are writing a literature review, use one of them.
StudyPDF does a narrower job for students. It reads the paper you were assigned, cites the page for the key points, answers questions from it and turns it into practice, in the same course as your slides. Use a specialist tool to survey a field. Use StudyPDF when you have to understand this paper and be asked about it.
Try it on this week's paper
Upload the paper you have to read this week and open the Summary. It takes a couple of minutes and a free account, no card. Free gives you about 4 materials a week.
For a chapter from a book, the textbook summarizer covers that. For a map of how a paper's ideas connect, make a mind map from the same upload.

Questions and answers
How can I summarize a research paper?
Read the abstract and the conclusion first, then work out the question, the method, the main result and the limits. With StudyPDF you upload the paper, choose Summary and get a TL;DR, key points and prose, with citations that open the page each point came from.
How do I summarize the results of a research paper?
State the main finding with its number, say how large the effect was and note what the authors say limits it. In StudyPDF, ask for the results in the free-text field of the Summary form, then open the citations and check the numbers against the table.
Can ChatGPT summarize a research paper?
A general chatbot can summarize text you give it, but you have to check the result by hand. In StudyPDF the key points link to pages of your paper, and Bo answers from the paper and cites the page, so checking takes a click.
5 more questions
How accurate are AI summarizers?
Not perfectly. An AI summary can misread a number or drop a condition. StudyPDF cites the page for the key points and runs a pass that checks the citations, but that does not make a summary correct. Open the cited page for any figure you will use.
Is it okay to use AI to summarize articles, and how do I avoid plagiarism?
Check your course and university rules first. As reading help it is usually fine. In your own assignment, write in your own words and cite the paper, not the summary.
Does it work on scanned papers, figures and tables?
Yes. Pages are read by a vision model, so scans work. Figures and tables are cropped out of the pages, and Bo can pull one into the chat and explain it.
Can it compare several papers or build a bibliography?
No. StudyPDF works on the papers in your course one at a time and does not compare them side by side, manage references or search journals. It is built for studying the papers you were assigned.
Is there a free research paper summarizer?
You can start free. You need a free account, no card. Free gives you about 4 materials a week, and Pro gives you more.
