How long is the real estate exam?
It depends on your state. The three checked here take 3 to 4 hours: California gives 3 hours for 150 questions, Florida gives 3 hours 30 minutes for 100 questions, and Texas gives 150 minutes for the national part plus 90 minutes for the state part. Many states split the test into a national part and a state part, each with its own clock.
In more detail
There is no single national exam clock. Each state's real estate commission and its testing vendor set the number of questions, the time and the passing score, so two neighboring states can differ on all three. The figures here are for the salesperson exam and come from state and vendor documents. Broker exams run longer: California's is 200 questions in 4 hours.
Where the exam has a national and a state portion, each has its own clock. In Texas that is 150 minutes for the national portion and 90 minutes for the state portion, or 240 minutes if you take both in one sitting, according to the Pearson VUE candidate handbook. Divide the minutes by the questions to find your pace: California works out to 72 seconds per question, Florida to about 2 minutes.
Add check-in and instructions on top of the exam time and plan the whole morning or afternoon. If you need extra time or other accommodations, ask your state or its testing vendor well before test day.
