Qué entra de verdad en el GED
El GED no es un examen largo. Son cuatro exámenes por materia separados, y los haces de uno en uno: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science y Social Studies. Cada uno se puntúa en su propia escala de 100 a 200, y 145 es la nota de aprobado de esa materia. Existen bandas más altas para quien busca colocación universitaria o créditos universitarios, normalmente fijadas en 165 y 175, pero 145 es lo que te da el título. Como apruebas materia a materia, una nota baja en un área solo significa repetir esa área, no empezar de cero.
Los exámenes no duran lo mismo ni tienen la misma forma. Language arts es el más largo, unos 150 minutos, e incluye una Extended Response en la que lees dos argumentos cortos sobre el mismo asunto y escribes un texto sobre cuál está mejor apoyado en pruebas. Mathematical Reasoning dura unos 115 minutos y viene en dos partes, una sección corta al principio que se hace sin calculadora y una sección más larga en la que tienes una calculadora científica en pantalla y una hoja de fórmulas. Science ronda los 90 minutos y Social Studies los 70. Los dos se apoyan mucho en textos, gráficos, mapas y tablas, así que buena parte de la nota sale de leer bien una fuente y no de recordar un dato de memoria.
Hay cosas que sí varían de verdad, y ahí es donde la gente recibe malas informaciones. Tu estado decide la tasa por materia, la edad mínima y el papeleo de baja escolar o de consentimiento paterno, cuántas repeticiones tienes y cuánto hay que esperar entre intentos, y si puedes examinarte online con supervisión remota o solo en un centro de examen. Unos pocos estados usan otro examen de equivalencia de bachillerato en vez del GED, o ofrecen más de uno. Consulta la web oficial de tu estado antes de planificar según un precio o una norma que leíste en un foro, porque esa persona puede estar en otro estado.
Cómo usar esta muestra
Estas 15 preguntas cubren las cuatro materias de una sentada, cosa que el examen real nunca hace. Eso la convierte en una comprobación de conjunto, no en un simulacro. Sirve para ver qué materia está más floja y cuál podrías programar pronto, y no es lo bastante larga para decirte si superarías el 145 en alguna de ellas.
Hazla sin apuntes, y prueba las preguntas de mates sin calculadora aunque el examen real permita una en casi toda la sección. Hacerlo así separa dos problemas distintos: no saber plantear el problema, y saber plantearlo pero fallar en la aritmética. Cada uno se arregla de otra forma. Después lee todas las explicaciones, también las de las preguntas que acertaste, porque un acierto de suerte tapa un hueco que volverá a salir el día del examen.
Luego usa los fallos para decidir qué hacer. Como el GED se aprueba materia a materia, la mayoría avanza más rápido preparando una sola materia, programándola, aprobándola y guardando ese resultado, en vez de estudiar las cuatro a la vez y no presentarse a ninguna. Si tus fallos se concentran en las preguntas de lectura y gramática de aquí, empieza por language arts. Si se concentran en las de gráficos y datos, science y social studies son probablemente la misma debilidad con otra ropa.
