Delen English and Language Usage på ATI TEAS 7 er den korteste af de fire: 37 spørgsmål på 37 minutter, præcis ét minut per spørgsmål. 33 spørgsmål tæller med i din score, og 4 er uscorede testspørgsmål, som du ikke kan genkende, så behandl dem ens.
De spørgsmål der tæller, dækker tre fagområder. Normer for standardengelsk tæller 12 spørgsmål: stavning, tegnsætning og sætningsopbygning. Sprogkundskab tæller 11: grammatik i sammenhæng, klarhed og valg af sprog, der passer til en formel eller uformel situation. Tilegnelse af ordforråd tæller 10: at regne ordbetydninger ud af sammenhængen og af orddele som forstavelser, rødder og endelser.
Fordi tiden er knap, belønner denne del mønstergenkendelse. De fleste spørgsmål tester et lille sæt regler, der går igen: kongruens mellem grundled og udsagnsord, kasus ved stedord, ord der ofte forveksles, apostroffer og opbygningen af hel- og ledsætninger.
